Description

The ruffled blooms on this Siberian iris are distinct for their sky blue standards and falls with navy blue centers and small light-yellow signals. They make lovely cut flowers and attract bees and hummingbirds. But the ethereal blooms belie its hardy, tough, disease resistant nature. It is truly not only one of the most beautiful flowers in the garden but also one of the most trouble free.

Although this clump-forming perennial grows well in a wide range of soils, it prefers average, neutral to acidic soils and requires plenty of water, making it well suited to a rain garden and naturalized settings in moist, sunny areas around ponds and lakes. It can also be planted in the dappled sun of woodland gardens, even among black walnuts, since it is not susceptible to juglone and is deer and rabbit resistance. Of course, no cottage garden is complete without iris, but this one is right at home in eclectic gardens, too. Although it is perfectly suited as a specimen, its beauty is multiplied in mass, whether in a bed or border.
