Description / Lagerfeld Grandiflora Rose
Lagerfeld is a lavender-mauve blend, with blue tones from its seed parent, Blue Nile®, and purples, creams, and pinks from its pollen parents, Ivory Tower and Angel Face. The blooms have the classic hybrid tea form, boasting 30 to 35 petals and arising in great flushes all season. Expect nearly a dozen blooms on every stem, for weeks of beauty and marvelous scent.
Bred by noted rosarian Jack E. Christensen and released in 1986, Lagerfeld was named for the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, though it has also been marketed as Starlight. We appreciate the appropriateness of this elegant, distinctive rose being christened after a couture designer; this is a rose for the finest vases and the formal garden.
Within a season or two, Lagerfeld reaches its mature size of 4 to 5 feet high and 3 to 4 feet wide. Medium green foliage, glossy and substantial, keeps the shrub attractive from spring through fall in the sunny garden. Consider planting one in the cutting garden as well, for you may become addicted to the graceful and unique beauty of these long-stemmed blooms in the vase, their fragrance perfuming the room. Lagerfeld is an exceptional addition to any garden.
