Description / Lilium Red Highland Asiatic Lily Bulbs

Plant Red Highland Asiatic lily bulbs before the first frost in fall, and in spring to early summer they bloom in huge, fiery red star-like flowers. The. Asiatic lilies are reliable bloomers with an extended season of blooms, with flowers having large, pollen-covered anthers that attract bees and butterflies to the garden. But these gorgeous blooms also make excellent cut flowers for bouquets and stunning additions to floral arrangements. When cutting flowers, leave as much stem and foliage in place as possible, leaving at least 2/3 of the stem with leaves to renew the bulb for next year's growth and flowering.

A Lilium asiatic species, commonly called Asiatic lily, Red Highland is a bulbous perennial with an upright habit. In optimal conditions, they grow and naturalize easily, returning to grace garden beds and borders, giving you even more blooms year after year. They are a must-have for a cutting garden but also grow well in pots and containers.

Plant Red Highland Asiatic lily bulbs 6 to 8 inches apart and 6 to 8 inches deep. Asiatic lilies like to have their heads in a sunny spot with at least 6 to 8 hours of sun each day but like their roots shaded. They prefer cool soils with good drainage and a slightly acidic pH. With a good winter mulch to protect them until spring, Asiatic lilies are winter hardy to Zone 3. Feed Asiatic lilies with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food in spring as growth begins. Allow foliage to die back naturally before removing. Asiatic lilies are deer resistant and rodent resistant.
