Magnolia 'Judy Zuk'

Magnolia 'Judy Zuk' is a small- to medium-sized flowering deciduous tree with a pyramidal habit, growing up to 20 to 28 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide over the first 10 years. The tree blooms in early spring as the large green leaves emerge. Upward facing and 6 to 12 inches wide, the tulip-shaped flowers have a nice fragrance and are a rich shade of golden-yellow that's flushed plum to apricot-pink at the base.

Honoring Judy Zuk, a former President of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, this beautiful magnolia is a stronger grower and makes an excellent specimen, accent, or shade tree. It's perfect for small narrow spaces in city and courtyard gardens. And its architectural branches add winter interest.

A low maintenance tree, 'Judy Zuk' magnolia grows best in a sunny to partially shady spot sheltered from strong, cold winds. It prefers organically rich, medium moist, well-draining soil, having a neutral (6.6 - 7.3) to slightly acidic pH (6.1 - 6.5). Young trees will benefit from regular irrigation and mulch around the base to retain moisture. The tree requires little to no pruning, but any desired pruning should be done immediately after flowering.
