Description / Olympiad Hybrid Tea Rose
One of the reddest of all red roses, this hybrid tea boasts long-lasting, 4- to 5-inch flowers on long, sturdy stems just perfect for cutting and displaying in vases around your home. The lovely pointed ovoid buds open to reveal perfectly formed, high-centered double blooms boasting 30 to 35 velvety petals and a light scent. They usually arise singly but are occasionally borne in small, irregular clusters. They hold their color very well in the garden, resisting spotting as they mature.
The plant is hardy, vigorous, low maintenance, heat tolerant, and disease resistant, with an attractive upright, bushy habit of grey-green foliage and reaching 5 feet high and 3 to 4 feet wide. In spring, prune this hybrid tea to about half height or 18 to 20 inches above the ground. It can be grown in containers but will need winter protection.
Olympiad comes by its beauty honestly as its parents are R. Red Planet x R. Pharaoh. Olympiad is a superb garden gem all season long, from its first pointed ovoid buds to its final flash of fall glory.
