Panicum Ruby Ribbons®

Panicum virgatum, commonly known as switch grass, will add texture and movement to your garden just like it does in the tallgrass prairie. It is noted for it's stiff, columnar form, and typically retains its vertical shape throughout the growing season. It is a clump forming, warm season grass which can grow up to three feet tall. The foliage is an attractive blue green that matures through the season into an attractive purple red. The foliage clump is often topped in mid-summer by finely textured, pink tinged, branched flower panicles which hover over the foliage like an airy plumes. The panicles turn beige as the seeds mature in the fall the plumes persisting well into winter. Not only is this grass visually interesting and attractive in the landscape but the seeds are a welcome food source for birds during the winter. Use in borders, native gardens, or even by a water garden. Wherever you place it it will make a gorgeous addition to your garden.
