Description / Ranunculus Double Purple Buttercup Bulbs

Plant Ranunculus Double Purple buttercup bulbs before the first frost in fall, and early the next summer, they bloom prolifically, setting masses of cupped, pretty purple flowers that complement its finely cut green foliage. Peony-like, the double blooms are intricately layered in a rosette of overlapping, sheer, papery petals. The long-lasting flowers sit atop sturdy stems that rise to 16 inches tall and make magnificent bunch bouquets and exotic additions to mixed floral displays of anemones, lilies, tulips, and roses.

Double Purple is a Ranunculus asiaticus cultivar, commonly called buttercup or Persian buttercup, with an upright habit. It creates stunning garden displays when clustered or grouped in beds, borders, or pretty patio pots. Double Purple buttercup is a must-have in a cutting garden.

Easy to grow, Double Purple is a tuberous perennial that thrives in USDA Zones 8 through 10. In colder regions, buttercup bulbs can be grown as annuals or they can be pulled, overwintered, and replanted the following spring.

Plant Double Purple buttercup bulbs with the root claws pointing down, 4 inches apart and 3 inches deep. Soak the corms in luke warm water overnight before planting. Place your buttercups in a sunny to partly shady area of the garden that has medium moist, freely draining soil. Water well to settle bulbs, and feed with a well-balanced fertilizer. Remove faded flowers immediately but allow foliage to die naturally and remove when fully wilted to a yellow/brown color. Leaves continue to absorb nourishment that feeds the bulb, benefiting future growth and blooming. Ranunculus Double Purple is deer resistant.
