Spiraea Pineapple Poprocks® Meadowsweet
Description / Spiraea Pineapple Poprocks® Meadowsweet
A Bloomin' Easy® variety, Spiraea Pineapple Poprocks® is a compact deciduous shrub that grows naturally 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Offering an evolving multi-season display of stunning color, the shrub's luminous lemony yellow leaves rock polka dot clusters of pinky purple flowers in summer before turning bright red in autumn. The button-like blossoms attract pollinators to the garden, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
A Spiraea japonica, commonly called Japanese spirea or Japanese meadowsweet, Pineapple Poprocks is a long-lived shrub that's innately tougha stellar option for the landscape. Its neat, mounded habit fits nicely in the smaller spaces of modern-sized gardens. And since it maintains a tidy appearance, it's a great option for a formal garden. Pineapple Poprocks makes a lovely specimen for beds; a great filler for a container garden; and an excellent choice for edging and borders.
Spirea is easy to grow and maintain. It grows best in sunny to partly sunny locations with medium moist, well-draining soil. Spirea typically tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay. Pineapple Poprocks is naturally cold hardy (to Zone 3) but also tolerates intense summer heat. And it's deer resistant and pet friendly. The shrub blooms on new wood, so any desired pruning should be done in early spring. A light trim after blooming refreshes the bush for a flush of colorful new growth and some possible rebloom.
