Description

Ajuga Princess Leia is an evergreen perennial offering year-round interest. A highly popular plant, Princess Leia quickly creates a striking and colorful carpet of uniquely patterned, variegated green and white leaves that's blanketed in whorls of deep purple flowers in spring. Nectar-rich, the flower spikes are extremely attractive to bees.

An Ajuga reptans species, commonly called bugleweed, Ajuga Princess Leia is an herbaceous plant with a fast growth rate and a compact, low growing, spreading habit that forms a dense mat of lush, attractive rosettes. Ajuga is perfect for small spaces and containers but is primarily grown as a ground cover in mixed beds, borders, and under plantings. It's great for controlling erosion, choking out weeds, and filling in barren areas, especially in shady areas where grass will not grow.

Cold hardy (to -30°F), easy to grow, and low maintenance, Ajuga Princess Leia grows best in sunny to partly shady locations with moist, well-draining soil. Ajuga tolerates dry soil but does not tolerate wet, heavy soil. Areas that provide at least 3 to 4 hours of sun a day produce the best foliage color. In hot, high humid locales, provide good air circulation. Cut back plants to the ground or mow on highest setting after flowering to remove spent flowers and rejuvenate the foliage. Divide clumps if overcrowding becomes a problem. Ajuga is deer, rabbit, and black walnut resistant.
