Description / Allium Collection Ornamental Onion Bulbs

Plant Allium Collection ornamental onion bulbs before the first frost in fall, and these summer-bloomers create a picture-perfect blend of clustered white, yellow, and rosy-red flowers, ranging in height from 6 to 15 inches tall. This mix of ornamental onions consists of Allium neapolitanum (white garlic), Allium moly (golden garlic), and Allium ostrowskianum (pink lily leek [syn. A. oreophilum]). pollinators love these fragrant flowers, including bees and butterflies, and they make pretty posies and summer bouquets.

These bulbous perennials have an upright habit and will multiply and colonize rather quickly, yet not overly aggressively. Alliums belong to the same family as garlic, onions, chives, and shallots; but ornamental alliums have beautiful blooms. These varieties add interesting shapes, colors, and textures to garden beds, borders, and patio pots. They are perfect for mass plantings.

Easy to grow, Allium Collection varieties are carefree in the garden. Plant these allium bulbs 4 to 5 inches apart and 5 inches deep, and water in. Once growth begins to appear, feed bulbs with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food. Site bulbs in a sunny spot with well-draining soil, having a slightly acidic pH. Amend heavy soils before planting. If over-crowding occurs over time and flower production decreases as a result, dig, divide, and replant the bulbs. The ornamental onions in this blend are deer resistant and rodent resistant.
