Description / Allium Collectors' Blend Ornamental Onion Bulbs

Plant Allium Collectors' Blend ornamental onion bulbs before the first frost in fall, and the following summer, they bloom in a beautiful mix of rounded red, white, rosy-purple, and purple flower heads that rise to heights between 20 to 40 inches tall. This mix contains the following unique and uncommon varieties: Allium Red Mohican, Allium Ping Pong, Allium sphaerocephalon, Allium Summer Drummer. The flowers in this blend are long-lasting and pollinator-attracting, including bees and butterflies, but they also make interesting and colorful summer bouquets.

These Allium varieties, commonly called ornamental onions, are bulbous perennials. They are in the same family as garlic, onions, chives, and shallots, but they offer beautiful blooms with unusual shapes and textures and introduce interesting architectural elements into the garden. Plant these ornamental onions in spectacular sweeping drifts, or cluster these beauties in flower beds, weave them through borders, or place them in deep patio pots. They're also a great option for layering in a lasagna bulb planting combined with grape hyacinth and anemone bulbs.

These ornamental onions are easy to grow just about anywhere, especially since this mix grows well in USDA Zones 3-9. They aren't picky about the type of soil they're planted in, but it must be freely draining. Soggy soil will cause bulbs to rot. Plant Allium Collectors' Blend ornamental onion bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and 4 to 6 inches deep and water well to settle bulbs. Once growth begins in summer, fertilize the bulbs with a specialized bulb food. If plants become overcrowded, dig up the bulbs, divide, and replant them. Deer and rodents are not interested in ornamental onions.

Visit our Bulb Supplies page to find all the tools and materials you need to plant and maintain your bulb plants successfully.

Note: These bulbs are mixed and ship in a single bag. Cannot be shipped to ID, NV, NC, and OR.
