Description / Gaillardia Lunar® 'Eclipse' Blanket Flower
Gaillardia Lunar® 'Eclipse' Blanket Flower is a compact perennial that grows to a mature size of 6 to 10 inches tall and wide and blooms continuously from early summer through late fall. A highly floriferous, large-flowered cultivar, 'Eclipse' sets daisy-esque, bicolor flowers with vibrant red petals tipped in golden yellow. Borne on strong stems, the long-lived flowers rise above a tidy mound of medium-green leaves and beckon bees and butterflies during the growing season and sustain songbirds into winter. They also make lovely, long-lasting cut flower bouquets.
Gaillardia x grandiflora, commonly called blanket flower, 'Eclipse' has a clumping habit and strong lateral branching. It's perfect for a patio pot or mixed container but is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in garden beds and borders. Blanket flower is ideal for a pollinator garden, a cottage garden, or a rock garden.
'Eclipse' blanket flower is a drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, easy-care plant that grows best in a sunny spot with dry to average, freely draining soil having a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Fertilize the plant in spring with Espoma Organic® Flower-tone® Blossom Booster and deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms.
