Description / Geranium 'Havana Blues'

Havana Blues is dazzling right from the start: the first leaves come on with a golden hue to them, and as they mature to a "normal" green, they pass the torch to the blooms. The stunning, soft-blue flowers come on in early summer and vaunt their colors until mid fall. The 2½-inch flowers look enormous on these showy little dwarf geraniums. Havana Blues grows only 8 to 10 inches tall and wide, making it perfect for the front of a bed or border or even a small sized container. The habit is neat but vigorous, with plants slowly spreading.

Havana Blues is fantastic for bedding, borders, patio, and containers in the South and Southwest, where many geraniums have short and unsatisfactory bloom seasons. The light center and violet streaks make these blue blooms a breathtaking groundcover for practically any garden use—the spreading habit even makes Havana Blues a good choice in hanging baskets. And these flowers attract just the right fauna: hummingbirds and butterflies both love these cheerful blooms, but deer tend to overlook them.

Plant Havana Blues in loamy soil with a good amount of shade. Get the root about an inch below the soil, and space these geraniums 10 inches apart.

I purchased 3 "Havana Blues", 3 "Raven", and 3 "Dragon Heart" Geraniums. I was very, very happy with the "Havana Blues" and the "Raven", as both of those varieties have gone bonkers in my garden with BEAUTIFUL color and GORGEOUS blooms. The "Havana Blues" is by far the STAR!!! It's blooms are silver dollar sized, while the "Raven" is much smaller (about the size of a penny or nickel). Sadly, I recieved only one viable Dragon Heart (the other 2 bags seemed just to have sawdust in them) and the one Dragon Heart has not bloomed as of yet, so I have no photos to show of that variety. I have beautiful photos of the other two varieties!!!

I bought five of these, after planting bare root April 4/19 about three and a half months later mid July average 115 days flowers appeared slightly pink and small 3/4 inch then in time they became bluer and about 2 inches very lush green and abundant flowers that are still in bloom Oct 30/19 after every thing else has gone by in CT. Worth the wait and next year should come in earlier. I'm usually not lucky with bareroot plants but these from Wayside Gardens succeeded, took a chance because I wanted this plant badly, glad I did.

color from summer to oct 8 and still strong 1st year in CT 0 people found this helpful

Planted Apr- 4- 19 took 111 days, July- 23-19 to first small PINK 3/4" blooms. I thought they sent wrong variety of geranium so I was disappointed because I already have several pink varieties. I waited for the ones I planted May-23-19 to appear and they did Aug -31.same results. Then as Sept came and gone they became bigger, bluer and very abundant as advertised. They are worth the wait and last past most other varieties of geranium, into frost which I like FALL COLOR.

Blooms all summer long. Planted in full sun and it fills in and covers the areas under my lilac trees with dazzling color all summer long. My neighbors have all asked what it is that is so beautiful.

Great performance first year 0 people found this helpful

I planted a few different varieties of Geranium this year and Havana Blues was by far the best performer. It has been blooming since late June and is still flowering heavily as of early August. It has spread significantly (much more than I expected in year 1) and had no disease or pest issues. I planted it where it gets morning sun and afternoon shade. Very pleased with the long blooming performance in its first summer. Anxious to see how it comes back next spring.
