Description / Hakonechloa 'All Gold'
Less cascading and far brighter than 'Aureola,' 'All Gold' adds gleaming yellow tones to the shade. This slow grower shows its best color in partial sun, but grows readily in any moist soil, even dense shade (where it will be more chartreuse than golden). In late summer to early fall, tiny russet-brown flower spikes top the plant. These may be trimmed or left alone, according to your taste; they are not particularly ornamental.
'All Gold' reaches 14 inches high and 18 inches wide in most climates. Unpalatable to deer, it is a good choice even for open and woodland settings. Zones 5-9.

All Gold for a Front Yard Slope 0 people found this helpfulOrdered six All Gold Japanese Forest Grass. They are lovely, bright light green/yellow. I planted several about 5 years ago on a slope in bright shade. They did not thrive at all due to thin, dry soils. This time I did it right by terracing my slope and amending the soil. These plants like a good bed of deep, rich moist soil with a good amount of organic matter. Just do it right the first time and these plants will become your favorite.

Stunning! 0 people found this helpfulThis is a stunning, delicate, colorful grass that makes a shady area really "pop." Slightly mounded, it cascades elegantly, performing best as an edger along the front of one of my shade gardens. I ordered three plants, which arrived in good condition and in time for early fall planting. The plants flourished until hard frost finally zapped their color, and they are now just emerging after a long, hard winter. The grass seems to hold it's bright color quite well and I'm looking forward to seeing how much the plants increase in size this summer. This grass was all but impossible to find locally, so I'm quite pleased to have found a reliable source online. If you're on the fence about buying do note that most places will sell out of this grass quickly in the spring, and even Wayside sold out and didn't have it available again until fall!

Great Grass to Brighten Shaded Area 0 people found this helpfulThis is a wonderful grass for the shaded garden. My experience with it is quite stellar. It is a true survivor. It likes a combination of moisture and shade, unlike most grasses you'll find for sale. H. macra 'Allgold' steadily increases to "wow" each year. It fades slightly throughout the summer, but it still maintains a wonderful chartreuse color.
