Description / Hyacinthus Fragrant Baby Blue Hyacinth Bulbs

Plant Fragrant Baby Blue hyacinth bulbs in fall before the first frost, and in spring the compact plants bloom in large flower spikes dense with hundreds of star-shaped blue florets. They rise to a height of 8 to 12 inches on sturdy stems, cradled in a nest of thick, strappy leaves. Fabulously fragrant, the flowers' powerful perfume makes them very popular with gardeners and pollinators alike, drawing in hummingbirds and butterflies from far and near.

A Hyacinthus orientalis, commonly called hyacinth, Fragrant Baby Blue is a bedding size plant with an upright habit, so it needs no staking. They are best clustered or massed in the garden or containers where their fragrance can be fully enjoyed. Grown in the garden, hyacinths will reappear for several years under ideal conditions but may decline with the passage of time. And with special handling, the bulbs can be forced in soil or in water for indoor display.

Cold hardy to Zone 4, Fragrant Baby Blue hyacinths are easy to grow in sunny to partially shady locations with organically rich medium moist, fast-draining soil having a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Plant Fragrant Baby Blue hyacinth bulbs 4 to 8 inches apart and 4 to 6 inches deep, feed bulbs with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food, keep well-watered during the growing season, and mulch for winter protection. Remove spent flowers immediately but allow foliage to die naturally and remove when fully faded. Fragrant Baby Blue is deer resistant.
