Description / Sisyrinchium 'Lucerne' Blue-Eyed Grass

Every garden—and more importantly, every gardener—deserves at least one plant like Sisyrinchium 'Lucerne', a blue-eyed grass. It requires absolutely no care after planting and returns year after year for three solid months of fresh, neat foliage, plus a long season of cheery blue blooms.

The sword-like foliage stands straight up and out, 8 to 10 inches tall, creating a neat appearance for edging, the front of the border, or mixed plantings. And beginning in late spring and continuing into summer, deep blue blooms with yellow-starred centers dot the foliage.

Blue color is always welcome in the garden, and the wonderful thing about Sisyrinchium 'Lucerne' is that it's so easy, you tend to forget about the flowering until the bright blossoms begin their showy display. The foliage stays fresh until hard frost. What could be simpler or more elegant? Blue-eyed grass was Thoreau's favorite plant, and it's not hard to see why.

Easy to grow in full sun to light shade, Sisyrinchium 'Lucerne' asks only well-drained soil for years of colorful growth.

Cheery blue flowers
Review by Kallie
I bought these a while back. the plants are shorter than I thought but the flowers are plentiful and cheerful--and they grow on the leaves of grass in an unusual way. I am very happy with them--they were the first thing blooming regularly this cool spring.

This is a great grower
Review by Mary Meacher
I love this plant. I bought 5 two years ago and they have gotten huge and put out offspring as well. They are gorgeous and so interesting. Their little flowers close up at night and open at first sunlight, they're also one of the first to bloom and stay green all winter. These are a real winner and they do well in full light, shade, or partial shade. I love them.
