Description / Paeonia 'Bowl of Beauty' Peony

Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society

Plant 'Bowl of Beauty' Peony bulbs before the first frost in fall, and in spring this award-winning peony produces very fragrant, 8-inch, anemone-shaped blooms of rose-pink outer petals cupping a densely packed center of yellow to cream inner petals on super strong stems, making them superb cut flowers. Borne on stately stems rising 24 to 36 inches tall, the flowers sit above bushy mounds of lush, glossy, green summer foliage that takes on autumnal purplish or golden hues in fall. Left in the garden, they are attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.

A Paeonia lactiflora, commonly called peony, 'Bowl of Beauty' is a bulbous herbaceous perennial that has a clumping habit and lives for decades, possibly generations. Charming classic cottage garden plants, peonies are truly spectacular when massed or grouped in a border or mixed bed. But they also make lovely specimen or container plants.

Plant 'Bowl of Beauty' bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and 1 to 2 inches deep. Site the bulbs in a sunny to partially shady spot with humus-rich, medium moist, free-draining soil, away from trees or shrubs. They don't like to compete for food, and they don't respond well to transplanting, so choose your spot carefully. When the plants begin to grow, feed them with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food. 'Bowl of Beauty' peonies are vigorous and low maintenance, once established and grown Zone appropriately (Zones 2-8). They like cold winters and need chilling for bud formation, so they are harder to grow in USDA Zones 8 or higher. 'Bowl of Beauty' peonies are deer resistant and rabbit resistant.

Peonies are easy to care for, long-lived, classic plants that offer distinct, sweet fragrance and large-petaled pompons of blooms. Peony flowers are popular cut flowers that are long-lasting in bouquets and scent your home with their organic perfume.
