Description / Thuja Private Jet™ Arborvitae
A Bloomin' Easy® variety, Thuja Private Jet™ is a native evergreen tree offering year-round interest. This tree rapidly reaches a height of 15 to 20 feet tall but maintains its naturally narrow shape, remaining 4 to 5 feet wide with no pruning. It makes a powerful statement in the landscape while maintaining a relatively small footprint, making it a versatile option.
A Thuja occidentalis, commonly known as American arborvitae and northern or eastern white cedar, Private Jet has a dense, upright, columnar habit and a fast growth rate. Private Jet adds a dramatic structural element to foundation plantings, mixed beds, and borders. It makes a great focal point in the garden, and it's an excellent choice for a privacy hedge.
Thuja Private Jet is easy to grow and maintain in full to partly sunny locations with moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay, but is intolerant of dry conditions. Private Jet is cold hardy to Zone 3 but also stands up to summer heat. Although little to no pruning is required, any desired pruning should be done in late spring after the new growth has emerged. Be careful not to cut into thick stems, which can leave unsightly scars, and recovery is typically slow.
A native tree, arborvitae are indigenous to North America. Native plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. Naturally adapted to the climate and soil conditions of the region, they thrive without fertilizers or extra watering, once established. They also act as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides in the garden. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides shelter and quality food for wildlife and pollinators, bringing gardens to life.
Grow at Your Own Pace with Three Size Options
- Jumbo Pint: A fantastic choice for those who love to watch plants mature.
- 1-Gallon: A mid-sized option for a fuller look in year one.
- 2-Gallon: The largest size, perfect for an immediate visual impact.
While Thuja are known for their deer resistance, no plant is entirely immune. Young trees should be monitored and protected, especially when food sources are limited.
