Do Firefly Petunias need special care to glow?
Firefly Petunias are identical to traditional petunias, except they glow with bioluminescence like fireflies. No special care is needed.
How bright are Firefly Petunias?
LightBio, the flower’s developers, describes the glow as being similar to moonlight. The newest flower buds glow the brightest.
When do Firefly Petunias glow?
Bioluminescence is best after twilight. The plants harvest energy from the sun during the day and use that energy at night to glow.
Which parts of the Firefly Petunia plant can glow?
The flowers are the primary source, with the youngest flowers glowing the brightest.
What should I do if my Firefly Petunia stops glowing?
If the plant is in poor health, it may stop glowing. Prune any branches that may have stopped glowing. Ensure the plant has sufficient sunlight, is not overwatered, and check for any pest or disease issues.
Can I grow Firefly Petunias indoors?
Yes! Ensure the plant is receiving direct sunlight for 6-8 hours each day or use grow lights. Growing indoors also helps manage the plant’s temperature needs, which are warm but not hot and cool but not cold. Ideally between 65-75 degrees F. They do not tolerate freezing temperatures.
How often does the Firefly Petunia need to be watered?
Water them when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. They like moist, but not waterlogged, soil.
What size are the Firefly Petunias when they are delivered?
Firefly petunias are shipped as small, rooted plants in a 4” pot. Because flowers tend to struggle during shipment, the petunia arrives with developing buds, and maybe a few newly opened flowers. Give it the right growing conditions and it will reach its mature size of 8-10” with lots of white flowers.
What if my plant looks tired when it arrives?
Shipping can be stressful for plants. Follow the recommended care as your plant acclimates. It may take a week for the Firefly Petunia to settle in and begin to flourish. Remember to leave the plant-able growing pot in tact to avoid disturbing the roots.
