Description / Loropetalum Jazz Hands Variegated® Chinese Fringe Flower

A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrub, Loropetalum Jazz Hands Variegated® is the very first variegated loropetalum. And this distinctive plant is small for a loropetalum, only growing to 4 to 6 feet tall and wide; so, it's very versatile in the garden. The evergreen foliage is bright and well-variegated in the new growth phase—with shades of pink and white and undertones of green and maroon—before maturing to rich purple. In spring, the foliage is heavily accented by stunning clusters of delicate bright pink fringy flowers, with some rebloom occurring after the initial heavy spring bloom.

A Loropetalum chinense, commonly called Chinese fringe-flower, Jazz Hands Variegated has an upright, spreading habit and a good growth rate. This Chinese fringe-flower is a superb stand-alone specimen or focal point, in garden, or it's suitable as a screening, hedging, and back of the border plant when massed in the landscape.

Grown Zone appropriately (7b-10) and given the right growing conditions, Jazz Hands Variegated loropetalum is virtually carefree. The shrub grows best in a sunny to partly sunny location but should get a minimum of 4 hours of full sun for best flowering and foliage color. It prefers well-drained, acidic soil. Young plants should be kept moist but not soggy. Once established, the plant is drought tolerant and should be watered deeply but less frequently to encourage deep, healthy roots. Jazz Hands Variegated is also heat tolerant and deer resistant. Fertilize in early spring using a slow-release fertilizer. Any desired pruning should be done in spring after the shrub has finished flowering. In cooler climates, add extra mulch around the base of the plant.
