Ideal for the Sunny Summer Perennial Garden 1 people found this helpfulThere are many choices for summer phlox in the sunny perennial garden. Finding long blooming and disease resistant plants should often be a criteria when making a selection. This plant is a welcomed addition in the garden. I always try to buy three or more to disperse masses of similar colors across the sunny perennial garden, creating waves of color to form meadow-like experiences. Each year it is a joy to divide perennials, add top-dressing soil improvements, nurture the plants in the spring to generate a dazzling summer display, slightly different, and usually better than the amazing summer before. Managing and caring for the sunny perennial garden is one of the joys of living in a temperate climate. Each week the garden appears different, slowly changing, and a pleasure to visit throughout the summer. Each fall, I look for new additions to include this garden. In my area, phlox is a favorite for summer browsing by white-tailed deer, so I must take a few thoughtful precautions (careful placement within the collection, sometimes discrete fencing, and the use of sprays to discourage browsing) to protect the plants from the deer in order to enjoy the prolific blooms. It is worth the effort. Everyday in the summer, visiting the summer perennial garden is a beautiful experience.
